About our Executive Director

Michael J. Demers, BS

Mike Demers has been named the Executive Director of The Gainesville Opportunity Center, Inc.   Mike is a native of Attleboro, Massachusetts; he graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, MA in 1988, and has over 20 years of experience in the clubhouse model.

He has previously worked as a Clubhouse Director for Horizon House in Wakefield, MA for three years.  In addition he worked for Genesis Club for seven years as the Program Director, Training Coordinator and the Director of Marketing and Placement.   Genesis Club is one of only 10 Clubhouse Training Bases in the world, and as the Training Coordinator Mike was responsible for coordinating and facilitating all the trainings.  

Mike served as a Board Member for the New England Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program in Boston, MA, and for Kent Center-Hillsgrove House in Warwick , RI.  He has also been a Faculty Member for the International Center for Clubhouse Development in New York, NY, and worked as a private consultant to various clubhouses and agencies providing short term training and program development.   Mike was published in the June 1999 Clubhouse Community Journal for "Roots and Visions", an article that was a brief overview of the clubhouse model, it's concepts and proved the potential development of the model while maintaining it's core integrity.
